Preparing for your Maternity Session
First of all—congratulations! This season of life is so special, and I’m so honored to capture these memories for you. Maternity sessions are all about celebrating the incredible journey of pregnancy, and my goal is to make you feel beautiful, confident, and completely at ease. Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, here’s everything you need to know to prepare for your session with me!
When to Start Planning Your Session
This depends on what phase of pregnancy you want to showcase, whether that's the gender reveal/announcement photos or your third trimester.
Most of my clients typically like to shoot around 28-36 weeks, but it’s best not to schedule super close to your due date.
I offer pregnancy announcement and gender reveal shoots as well and we can happily discuss a special package if you want to book multiple shoots!
Questionnaires
i need all the info!!
These are SO important so I can know everything there is to know before your session. It helps me gather things like your Pinterest board, general info and other things so I can be as prepared as possible for your session.
What to Expect
I’ll walk you through the entire session with all of the props and the guidance my approach is always relaxed and fun, so don't stress!
I'll help you prepare before hand by sending you a questionnaire to make sure I have all the info I need to make the session great plus I will re-share this post with you to refresh your memory to feel ready!

Be Prepared
What to Bring to the Session
- First, I recommend bringing a basic large tote bag ( think the ones you'll find at grocery stores/Marshalls checkout aisle- the paper/plastic shopping bags tend to fall apart super quickly)
- If you are wearing heels, bring some slides/sandals to wear while we walk around campus.
- If you plan to bring any props such as ultrasound photos, baby shoes, onesies, etc please bring those items.
- If it's the summer time, bring a small fan and a water bottle to help you stay comfortable during our session.
- Any lipstick/lipgloss for touch-ups

Getting ready for your session
Here are some key things to keep in mind before our session togehter:
Treat yourself to a fresh manicure, soft curls, or professional makeup if that’s your thing. Wear a natural look with no makeup or wear some basic mascara, etc whatever you feel comfortable with!
I love the props! Bring some ultrasound photos, baby shoes, or a sentimental piece of clothing can add a personal touch to your session.
The most important thing is to enjoy this time. I’ll guide you through natural posing and movement so you feel comfortable and beautiful every step of the way.
What to Wear for Your Maternity Photoshoot
Wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. If you’re not feeling a dress, a cozy sweater and jeans, or a bodysuit with an oversized cardigan can be just as beautiful.
Some options I love:
- Flowy Dresses
- Form Fitting Body con Dresses/sweaters, etc
- Sweater and jeans
- Keep it super simple with a sports bra and unbuttoned jeans
- For Partners and siblings- stay complementary and not matchy
For colors and a color scheme, wear neutral tones, pastels, or earthy tones. Please avoid super bright neon colors and crazy patterns- keep it simple!
If you need outfit guidance, I’m happy to help! I can even send links to my favorite maternity-friendly brands. Some of my favorite maternity looks are featured in a small gallery below.
What about the weather?
The weather in New England is constantly changing so I'll be checking the weather app constantly leading up to our session. If the weather app says it'll rain on the day of your session, I'll see if we can work around the rain- either moving your session earlier or later in the day to avoid the rain the best we can.
Let me know what works best for you - but if the weather looks like it won’t be great, I'll typically try to make the call at least 12 hours in advance.
I'm down to shoot in the rain & snow as long as we're safe & you are down for it as well.
after the session- getting your photos
After our session, I'll go home and edit all of the beautiful photos! Depending on my schedule and your package, this can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks but I do my best to keep you updated! You will get your gallery through a online link via email where you will get a step-by-step process on how you should download your photos and access to my print shop linked to your gallery.
To keep your photos forever, I recommend downloading them through the Google Photos option on my site! Keep in mind I will archive galleries as time goes by so please download your photos ASAP, I'll give you a warning email when your gallery will be archived.
