Wedding Designs with Kaitlyn Chabot Photo
As a wedding photographer, I love capturing all of the details of the wedding day. I also especially love to collaborate with my clients on their day to make it uniquely theirs. That is why I've offered designs for my wedding clients, whether that is custom save-the-dates or illustrations of their pets to be included on the big day.
This guide goes through my entire design process and what to expect from me!
My Process
1.you create a pinterest board
To get the best sense of your wedding ideas, aesthetic, and overall vision, create a Pinterest board for your wedding & include a section just for stationery/signage and add any inspo you love!
2.i review inspiration & pull ideas from your board
Once you send over the board, I'll gather my thoughts and ideas from reviewing your Pinterest inspiration.
3.design drafts begin
I'll work on drafts of our first design together! I'll send you a few options to choose from and we will communicate together best ideas and vision for these designs.
4. we finalize everything
We'll finalize your fonts, colors, and style along with the final designs themselves. I'll send over a final design through email and help assist with the printing process, too.
The Vision
Before we design anything, we need a clear vision for your wedding day style. This should feel like you two and reflect the overall vibe of your day.
To start, I’ll have you create a Pinterest board and pin anything that catches your eye. This can include invitations, colors, florals, signage, tablescapes, or overall wedding vibes. You can also invite me as a collaborator so I can add ideas and inspiration as well.
Your Wedding 'Brand'
I know it sounds a little ridiculous, but thinking of your wedding as a “brand” is the easiest way to keep everything looking cohesive.
This means using the same colors, fonts, and overall style across all of your designs, from invitations to signage. When everything works together, your wedding feels more intentional and photographs beautifully.
I’ll help you narrow down font pairings, color palettes, and design elements so everything feels polished and consistent.

Once we’ve established your vision, we’ll define a few key design elements together, including:
- Color palette
- Font pairings
- Overall design style (modern, romantic, minimal, etc.)
- Design elements and details
- Overall tone (formal, relaxed, playful, classic)
Wedding Logo/ Monogram
What is a Wedding logo?
A wedding logo or monogram is something many couples love because it can be used everywhere. It adds a personal touch and helps keep everything cohesive.
Logos can be super simple or more detailed, depending on your style. These are a few examples of logos I’ve designed for past couples.
Color Palette
When choosing your color palette, start with colors that are already part of your wedding day. Bridesmaid dresses, florals, and the venue are all great places to pull inspiration from. I recommend having a mix of lighter and darker shades for balance and variety, like a light blue complemented with a darker slate blue. You can also look on Pinterest to find color palette ideas and include that on your board to guide us in the right direction!
Typefaces
Your primary typeface is the main font used throughout your wedding designs. It’s usually chosen for readability and overall style. Once we choose a primary font, we’ll pair it with a secondary font, often a script or accent font, to add interest and personality. Font choices play a big role in setting the tone and overall feel of your wedding. Whether you want a classic and elegant wedding or something more relaxed and fun, those play heavily into your font choices too.
Wording
Every wedding is different, and your wording should reflect that. Do you go by your full names or nicknames? Do you prefer a more traditional or relaxed tone?
Some invitations include wording like “together with their families,” while others keep things more modern or casual. There are so many options, and I’ll provide a few wording styles unless you already have something specific in mind.
Common Wedding Designs
Many different pieces can be designed for a wedding. Some common ones include:
- Save the Dates
- Invitations and detail cards
- Welcome signs
- Seating charts
- Table numbers
- Bar signs and programs

Wedding Invitation Suite
What is an Invitation Suite?
Your invitation suite is often the first glimpse your guests get of your wedding day, so it’s a fun way to set the tone and tell your story visually.
A typical invitation suite can include:
- Main invitation
- RSVP card
- Details card (accommodations, timeline, or travel info)
- Envelopes and envelope liners
Some couples really love the intentionality and cohesiveness of invite suites. But if you want to be simple, then we can certainly make just a ‘regular’ invitation that is beautifully designed!
The extra, detail-oriented, design freak in me loves invitation suites and finds them to be absolutely stunning. It truly does set the tone and overall vibe for your wedding day, letting guests get a glimpse of what is to come and get excited for the big day. I love creating these because there is so much intention, personality and beauty to these invites. I've helped my couples create really fun, custom suites before and would love to do the same for you.
Your Invitation Suite
As part of the design process, I’ll create a few mockup ideas for you to review that will show:
- The front and back of the invitation
- RSVP card design ideas
- detail card ideas
- enclosure ideas
- Envelope colors pairings
I’ll give you a couple of different options to choose from so you can see what feels most “you.” This part of the process is meant to be fun and creative, and it’s a great way to bring your wedding vision to life early on.
Custom Illustrations
I enjoy adding custom illustrations to wedding designs when it suits the couple. While I'm not a professional illustrator, I love creating these on my iPad. Custom illustrations can include:
- Your wedding venue
- Your dog, cat, or other pets
- Something meaningful or unique to you
These illustrations can be used on invitations, signage, or other design elements throughout your wedding.
Things to Keep in Mind
printing
I don't do any of the printing, but always suggest printing through VistaPrint, The Knot, or Zola. Using those wedding-specific websites to print makes planning/logistics much easier.
colors
When printing, colors can look different than how they do on the screen. Especially when you print photos!
less is more
You don’t need your designs to be anything crazy! Plus, not everything needs signage to feel complete.

Every collaboration is intentional. I want you to be happy with the final designs, so please communicate with me throughout the process for the best results.
